I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter is a concert of synthesized sounds and synthesized smells. It is both ritual and tribute to the fragrant tools humans have long used to mask less welcome aromas. It is also an invitation to travel — to other spaces, perhaps other times — guided by scent’s direct pathway to memory and emotion in the brain. Will we all arrive in the same places? Time will tell. By the end, you too may not believe it’s not butter.
